October 15th, 2010"Windblowne", by Stephen Messer, is an engaging new fantasy-adventure about a boy named Oliver who grows up in the treehouse town of Windblowne. The highlight of the year is the kite festival, but Oliver struggles to make even one kite fly - or even hold together - successfully. Just when he is too discouraged to go on, Oliver is thrown into the middle of a magical mystery, facing peril and as many twists as a kite's tail. Messer uses simple language and straightforward writing with great effectiveness, conjuring up a memorable world that can be approached by keen younger readers as well as readers aged 9-12 in search of something new. Additionally, this novel features cover art by Erwin Madrid which makes for one of the best covers we've seen in years.
