Skratch Publishing: Chapter the Seconde

July 7th, 2009

Soon, our tiny little company finished writing and drawing its first book. It was about a brave little chicken named Skratch. The chicken in the story wanted to be a writer but didn’t know how to start.

The tiny little company felt it was channeling something personal.

The little company wrote “The End” in its cute children’s book sat back and sighed. “My book has a name, but I have none,” it said. What should I call myself?

The little company looked back at the cover of its new book and saw the name of the brave little chicken reading a book under a tree.

“Skratch,” thought the tiny little company. I’ll call myself Skratch!”

And that’s what the company named itself. Skratch Publishing.

“And I’ll have shareholders!” yelled the tiny company, excited!

And that’s when the company grew up just a little and called itself Skratch Publishing Inc.

That's basically how it started. Our first book was written and illustrated early, before we even had a name. We adopted our Chicken Skratch as something of a mascot and the name stuck.

Any small business needs advisers early on, and we have ourselves some fantastic people playing on our team. It was recommended early on that we incorporate, since we'll be selling our products and services online and hence, throughout the world. Being incorporated gives us more flexibility as a business from an international standpoint. Also, having 'Inc.' at the end of your business name sounds cool.
